The other day I was at a home doing a survey. The customer was moving from Tinley Park to Orland Park, and they were packing their own things. They asked me what, if any, advice I would give someone based on my experience in the business, and I offered the advice that I give everyone: First, start packing as soon as possible, it will take you MUCH longer than you think, and second, do not try to schedule loading and/or delivery around a real estate closing. Especially in today’s climate, the closings will inevitably get postponed and you will be chargesd for the time the mover is waiting. Give yourself a little cushion by scheduling the move for the day before or after the closing, most parties will agree to this format during scheduling. And, most importantly, make sure to call Stevenson Transfer for all of your move needs! Talk to you next time!

During the course of every estimate I give, I always have to explain why the “amazing price” the client recieved from an online broker really is too good to be true! I found this article on movingscam.com that explains as well as I can how these crooks operate and can make your life miserable and give the rest of us a bad name! In fact, most of them are breaking numerous state and federal laws in the process of getting your belongings from origin to destination — and leaving you liable for any problems that may arise. Remember that in moving, as in everything else, if it seems too good to be true, it is. Always insist on an in-home survey by a reputable moving company such as Stevenson Transfer, and do the research on any mover you are considering hiring. An educated client is the best kind to deal with, as it will make you more comfortable with your choice of movers!

I recently was reading some articles on the movingscam.com website, and realized it is probably a great resource to share with our clients. It is definitely worth looking through if that estimate you got online seems just a little too good to be true, or if you want to know just what to avoid ahead of time in order to find the best mover for the price. Business Expo produces diverse group of participants

One of the greatest things about being a family owned and operated moving company is that we are very connected to the communities we serve. In addition to the 3 Chambers’ we are members of, we get to participate in many exciting events associated with these groups. In October, we were fortunate enought to have been invited to be a part of the Business Showcase Expo 2010 sponsored by the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce. We were the only moving and storage company represented at the event, but we were fortunate to have met many different professionals from multiple fields of business. We were able to chat with folks in the health care field from Provena and Concentra, educators and administrators from Waubonsee Community College and Rasmussen College, among others, and countless other professionals throughout the western suburban area. Angie also met Lourdes Duarte from Chicago’s very own WGN TV news. We were grateful for the opportunity to participate…look forward to more postings from our next event!

Most movers look forward to the moving season of early May through late September with a mix of excitement and trepidation… It is our busiest time of year by far, but often the amount of volume that movers have to carry will affect the level of quality that they are able to give. I am constantly offering my customers the best service available, regardless of the time of year it is. However, I always look forward to autumn, as this is a really great time to choose a mover and get your relocation under way! Not only is availability good, but you generally will be able to be more flexible with the scheduling than you would be in the heart of the “normal” moving season. Women In Action Symposium in Naperville

Stevenson Transfer was a proud vendor and participant in the Women In Action Symposium through the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce, held recently in Naperville, IL at the Hotel Arista! Angie Stevenson was on the organizing panel and the event was spectacular, drawing in female professionals from all over the western suburbs of Chicago. Three powerful keynote speakers, Seattle Sutton, Diana Martinez of The Second City, Chicago, and children’s author Julia Durango all gave very motivating talks about the state of business today as it pertains to professional women. Bill Stevenson Jr. manned the vendor table, and it was a wonderful experience and a great organization to be a part of! We are looking forward to more positive interaction with the members of the Aurora Chamber!
